Paul Coulters is back for his third year with 5 Mistakes That Changed History, and his obvious passion for the past shines through as he brings these stories to the stage. He clearly enjoys sharing tales of his favourite historical slip-ups, covering a range of times and places with a good dose of laughter and fun.

The show’s structure is effective. His fast-paced style and countdown format keeps the momentum high, while projected imagery adds an extra layer to the comedy, strengthening the humour. Part comedy, part Ted talk – there’s space to learn new stories, historical figures, and facts that you might not have encountered before.

However, some of his turns of phrase become repetitive at times, and a few jokes could benefit from sharper focus. While Paul brings a fun, light-hearted energy to the performance, the delivery doesn’t always hit its mark – but is enjoyable nonetheless.

If you’re a history buff, you’re likely to enjoy this blend of education and entertainment. It’s an enjoyable hour to learn new facts and stories from history, even if the comedy doesn’t always land as sharply as it could.
