Selling out for the sixth consecutive year, this globally renowned comedy ensemble needs no promotion. But just because a show is a Fringe mainstay, doesn’t mean it evades criticism or that its brilliance should be taken for granted. Baby Wants Candy justifies its accolades within minutes. My only note is a selfish one: Couldn’t it last a little longer? Perhaps forever? 

Receiving the loudest applause, the title of a musical that doesn’t exist picked for our performance was ‘Legally Blind’. After a few mock grumbles about being cancelled, the cast whir into action, transforming into sorority girls for the first spoofy rendition: ‘Omigod My Eyes’. The band’s seamless insertions of the musical’s motifs are extraordinary. 

The rap battle ‘See Off’ had the crowd holding up items for Will Naameh and Allen Lucas to incorporate into their improvised verses. With absurdly witty lyrics and optical-themed choreography-moving their glasses on and off as an intimidation tactic-the audience was Whipped Into Shape, or rather a frenzy, inspiring an almost involuntary reaction of fervent whooping and foot-stamping. 

The cast’s wholehearted commitment, intuitive collaboration, and vigorous dedication to fun ensures that Baby Wants Candy will retain its status as unmissable for many years to come.
