Ben Hart’s latest show at the Fringe celebrates a decade of his mesmerising magic with a collection of his best material from over the years. Hart’s ability to captivate an audience is evident from the moment he steps on stage, effortlessly keeping everyone on edge as he weaves his tricks into a broader narrative.

Though this show lacks the deep storytelling that has been a hallmark of Hart’s previous work, he still manages to craft an interesting plot around ten seemingly unrelated tricks. His charm and skill as a magician are undeniable, and he cleverly connects the dots between these tricks to create a cohesive and engaging experience.

While fans of his more narrative-driven performances might miss the storytelling depth, there’s no denying the entertainment value in this retrospective. Hart’s stage presence and interaction with the audience are as strong as ever, and the show’s structure allows him to showcase the full range of his talents. It’s a fitting tribute to his ten years at the Fringe, blending nostalgia with fresh surprises.

Overall, Hex is a well-crafted show that highlights Hart’s strengths as a performer. It may not delve as deeply into storytelling as some of his previous works, but it offers a thoroughly entertaining experience that fans of magic and theatre alike will enjoy.
