Dan Tiernan won The Frog and Bucket comedy club’s “Beat the Frog” new stand-up competition in 2020. The following year he became a finalist in the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year at the Leicester Comedy Festival. Then, in 2022, Dan Tiernan was named British Comedian of the Year and awarded the BBC New Comedy Award. Nonetheless as I descended the stairs into Monkey Barrel 2 I wasn’t sure what to expect. The audience was filled with excitement and anticipation as a voice bellowed “are you ready?”

What proceeded was a most enjoyable and very loud hour, filled with self-deprecating digs at his own appearance and his life dealing with dyspraxia, with insight into his family and previous jobs. Poking fun at his challenges, he gives us gag after gag and still leaves us wanting more.

Dan comfortably engages with his audience of all ages and nations, and, while touching on serious topics, revels in his audience’s hesitation to laugh at them. He does not shy away from discussing the harder parts of life, and that’s what connects with the crowd the most.

Expect an hour of high-energy, engrossing stand up from a comedian who is going from strength to strength.
