“Maybe the gayest entrance you could make…”

Daniel Foxx bounds on stage with his instantly recognisable shock of white-blonde hair, to a large, cheerful crowd who seem to know his comedy styling. Unsurprising, as his debut hour Villain enjoyed a sold-out, extended Edinburgh Fringe run, as well as Best Show at Leicester Comedy Festival and his online social media presence amassing over 900,000 followers. His new show How Lovely. weaves a narrative about growing up a romantic-at-heart, swayed and influence by the genre of rom-coms plentiful in the 90s and noughties. (Disclaimer: I, too, was a captive of the genre.)

As a rom-com acolyte, he longed for his own fairy-tale romance and believe he’d achieved it with a bearded, handsome man with who he shared a six-year relationship, as well as a (intently trained) not-racist dog (you’ll have to watch the show to understand that). I won’t give too much of Daniel’s story away as it’s well worth hearing for yourself. His comedy story time is a hilarious, sometimes outrageous and accurate representation of modern dating and relationships, which are still informed by the movies and stories we grew up with. 

Silly, sharp, wonderfully unhinged and surprisingly poignant, it’s well worth your time.
