“2008 was like watching a Christopher Nolan film, everyone wants a Wii.”

According to Rushton we’ve got a lot of time to fill, so we might as well spend it delving into his psyche. Fans of the comic will be delighted to know his stand-up fortes — bizarre quips about dating and depression — are expertly covered, though Could Well Be In is by far his most personal show yet.

The set seeks to explain the significance of a birthday text he received from his mum (who he definitely doesn’t fancy!!). Marginally less self-deprecating than in previous shows, Rushton guides us through his own hero’s journey, from childhood and growing up with seven siblings on a council estate, to becoming Channel 4 Sean Lock Comedy Award winning comedian. 

Though he makes mock complaints that there are no universal references anymore due to highly personalised social media algorithms, Rushton proves that being brutally honest will always resonate. There are few better ways to spend an hour than seeing Could Well Be In.
