“Behind every great man is a woman… and the corpse of another woman.”

EVITA TOO teaches us a lot in its hour runtime. We discover Isabel Perón, the world’s first female president, explore Argentina’s political history, and learn that when there is a choice between mind maps and nude roller skating, the people vote pretty unanimously for the latter. Luckily for us, Sh!t Theatre do not disappoint. 

The show uses both traditional teaching tools (archival footage) and more innovative methods (bizarre musical numbers and Andrew Lloyd Webber and Elaine Paige puppets) to shine a spotlight on Isabel’s life which they believe has not just been misremembered, but ‘misteremembered’. Engaging and fun, EVITA TOO is a well-written and confidently performed piece that uses silliness to effectively tell an important story.

Throughout, Sh!t Theatre pose the question: “What does a woman have to do to be remembered?” Aside from the hot pink unitards and the naked blading which are obviously impactful, the show’s genuine interest and reverence for Isabel Perón is striking, and certainly what will be remembered by audiences when they recall EVITA TOO.
