A storm rages outside as five strangers step into a mysterious house with a mind of its own, and from the moment the lights go down, Flip Fabrique: Six delivers a whirlwind of acrobatic brilliance and theatrical charm.
The Quebec-based circus collective brings their signature style to this year’s festival with a show that is as visually inventive as it is delightfully surreal. The set is no mere backdrop; it is a character in itself, cleverly rigged for interaction and stunt work. Props appear organically from the environment, blending seamlessly into the action. At times, the walls quite literally shift, creating new dynamics that keep both performers and audience on edge.
There is a strong sense of narrative curiosity throughout. Why have these five people been brought here? What is the nature of the house, and why does one character remain oddly disconnected from the others? These moments of mystery add an intriguing layer to the spectacle, although not all narrative threads feel fully resolved.
The performers move with infectious energy and impeccable timing. The soundtrack is upbeat and perfectly matched to the mood of each scene, enhancing both the emotional beats and the acrobatic feats. Laughter ripples through the room at well-timed comedic moments, and there is a genuine sense of joy in the air.
However, the set design does have its drawbacks. Depending on your seat, you may catch glimpses behind the stage when the set tilts or moves, which can momentarily break the illusion. It’s unclear whether this exposure is deliberate or not, but it occasionally pulls focus from the main action.
A vibrant blend of circus artistry, theatrical play, and surreal storytelling. With clever staging, charismatic performances, and skilful tricks, Flip Fabrique: Six offers a show that is both technically dazzling and impressive. A festival highlight not to be missed.
