Award-winning feminist theatre company F-Bomb delivers a deeply intimate and visually arresting piece with Float, a solo show that takes audiences on an emotional spacewalk through grief, resilience, and identity.
Created and performed by Indra Wilson, Float is an autobiographical exploration of pregnancy loss through the lens of a young, queer solo parent. Rather than offering a direct retelling, Wilson frames the experience as an astronaut preparing for a high-stakes solo mission – a metaphor that proves both poignant and disarmingly effective.
From the moment Wilson steps on stage, they hold the audience in a gravitational pull of vulnerability, humour, and strength. Their writing is sharp yet poetic, allowing moments of silence to speak just as loudly as the dialogue. This is a story not just about loss, but about determination, autonomy, and the complex emotional landscapes of queer parenthood.
The production design is quietly stunning. A minimalist set transforms with light and projection, evoking the vastness of space while keeping the story grounded in human experience. These visuals, combined with a tightly woven soundscape, create an immersive atmosphere that elevates the performance beyond traditional solo theatre.
Co-direction by Cora Bissett (What Girls Are Made Of) and Niloo-Far Khan (Forever Home) brings balance and depth to the staging, never overcomplicating what is at its core a personal and emotional journey. Their thoughtful use of space, audience engagement, and symbolism ensures the story resonates on multiple levels.
What’s most striking about Float is its refusal to sensationalise. Instead, it offers a tender, often lyrical portrayal of grief and recovery that lingers long after the final blackout. It’s a courageous and refreshingly original piece of theatre that deserves to be seen.
