Jurassic Park (1993) won three Oscars: Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Visual Effects. While Hold On To Your Butts, isn’t likely to be nominated for the latter award, a neon green helmet substituting for a T-Rex-it certainly rivals the original’s audio. But a more relevant award this parody deserves is Best Show at the Fringe.

Characters are either hammed up, Dr. Ian Malcolm with his sexy stammer is unmistakable, and the recreation of Jeff Goldblum’s iconic shirtless scene is a particular highlight. Others are trimmed down to essential, identifiable traits; Timmy is abbreviated to a backpack. Lovers of the film will find the creativity employed to recreate the blockbuster scenes and almost identical shots astonishing.

The contrast between the high quality of the eerily accurate sound effects and the endearing scrappiness of the props elevates the comedic juxtaposition of the show and the film. True to its claim to be a shot-for-shot remake of Spielberg’s creature feature, Hold On To Your Butts also extends scenes where it sees fit. Notably, Hammond in the trailer kitchen with what sounded like a jar of mayonnaise (?) is a audible treat.

Run to see Hold On To Your Butts as if you’re being chased by a screeching man in goggles… I mean a velociraptor.
