Hot Flush is a bold celebration and reclamation of ownership of women over 40’s bodies, sexuality and power.
High GINxxx presents Hot Flush, a burlesque show dedicated not only to creating a space but also to providing a platform for women who are typically overlooked in the cabaret world. With performer line ups changing weekly, audiences can trust that every show they see will be different yet share the same sentiment that women can’t be aged out of their sensuality. The final week’s line up included Morning Star as our host, who kept the audience entertained between performances from Minge, Maple Belle, Steph Leppard, Cherry Champagne, Madelaine Soleil and The Dutchess. Every performance was unique with their own flair and personalities, which kept the show flowing and left audiences wanting more. The support between the performers was evident, and the audience felt like they were joining their family just by being there and a part of the proud visibility of this family of fabulous women.
This show is such a refreshing reminder that women can be glamorous, proud and take up space at any age. Women shouldn’t be pushed to the background as they age; instead, their spotlight should be even brighter, allowing them to inspire young women and girls and showcase the highs of getting older. Hot Flush encourages these kinds of rebellious political discussion to challenge and eventually remove the taboo of conversations surrounding menopause, ageing and women’s sensuality.
Hot Flush inspires audiences to embrace and be proud of their bodies, voices and beliefs and to be unafraid to showcase everything about themselves. No matter how taboo you’ve been taught to believe; you deserve to be seen.
