Every show begins with an initial spark. What was the original idea, moment or experience that made you create this piece?
I was working with my director Hollie Andrew as we were exploring my idea to create a show full of the great Divas such as Whitney, Tina, Adele to name a few. But it lacked any substance beyond my love for some of my favourite artists. I had recently saw Reuben Kaye for the first time back in Australia and he’s message and purpose is so clear in his political views. I started to ask what my purpose is and what I have to share with the world. Somethings came to mind. My journey getting sober, going to therapy, my ADHD, shame spiralling, my problematic relationships and so on. But more than laughing at the insanity of the mess I have hope to share. That life can get better. I wanted to create a hilarious healing circle of sorts.
What can audiences expect when they step into this world?
To laugh, relate, sing and be dazzled by the exceptional musicianship of Jacqui Randa.
The Edinburgh Fringe is a place where artists and audiences come together from across the world. Why is this the right place for this show?
The themes of being imperfect and human are universal themes. In a world that is becoming evermore individual it’s important to gather and relate and not be so hard on ourselves. Jacqui delivers these topics in a the common musical landscape of pop, rock, jazz and piano bar.
What is something about the show that the audience might not immediately notice, but you hope they discover?
That we really have more in common with each other than we think and that we need to practice self kindness.
What has surprised you most about creating this piece?
The quieter the audience is in the vulnerable sections the more they relate.
When your audience walks home, what would you love them to still be talking about?
I’ve had this said to me a few times after shows… ‘it was like you were inside my brain! I thought this was a set up and you were pulling a prank on me with how accurate I related to it’
