Every show begins with an initial spark. What was the original idea, moment or experience that made you create this piece?

I was posting throwback 2000s sketches on social media, then this particular one about shag bands went crazy viral. It ended with 37 million views which made me think, maybe I can do a show about this.

What can audiences expect when they step into this world?

Stepping in to my 2005 bedroom. The more I chat about y2k memories, the more I find we all basically lived the exact same life. Millennials get to relive their youth too. It’s that feeling of ‘I’m home’, back to a time that we can never recreate. But while you’re in my show, you’re there.

The Edinburgh Fringe is a place where artists and audiences come together from across the world. Why is this the right place for this show?

I do original songs, play dress up and relive the most embarrassing childhood memories as my 15 year old self. That’s fringe material if ever I saw it.

What is something about the show that the audience might not immediately notice, but you hope they discover?

I love gaming, I adore the Life is Strange games so there are Easter eggs. I change little props and pop references each night but there are also some ‘wink wink’ moments to modern times.

What has surprised you most about creating this piece?

I just thought it would be fun to make this show, but it’s surprised me how many different milestones I’ve been able to touch on.  Age 15 is a lot of firsts (humiliation, love, betrayal). One of the memories I play out genuinely still keeps me up at night to this day and I’m 34! At 15, emotions are big, unflitered, everything is a disaster. Nothing is subtle and that’s what people love so much about the 2000s in general. We weren’t subtle or minimalist. It was colour, huge belts, big sweeping fringes, tragic love songs. I love how big and bold the show is.

When your audience walks home, what would you love them to still be talking about?

If they’re humming one of my songs! But also just reliving their own memories and seeing things, hearing things they haven’t experienced for 20-odd years. Also the show has been loved by Gen Z and boomers too! Everyone takes something different away.
