Lara Ricote’s Inkling at Monkey Barrel wasn’t just a comedy show; it was a total takeover. It’s her world, and we’re simply living in it.

For most of the show, you’ll be swept up in the momentum without much clue to what’s actually happening. Her stage presence comes from a frenetic, electric energy. Speaking a mile a minute without ever missing a beat, her jokes flash by like lightning strikes. 

Her comedy style is impressively unique, and I’m confident you’re unlikely to see another set like Lara’s during the Fringe. There’s little reliance on crudity, or any obvious comedy cliches. Instead, her humour exists in the absurdity of her own little world.

Yet the show’s greatest strength is a double-edged sword: spend too long in the dark, and engagement starts to slip. Still, she stays firmly in the driver’s seat and, as passengers, we’re simply along for the ride.
