Leila Navabi: Composition

Leila Navabi’s Compositions is a rollercoaster of punk, music, and comedy, where she dives headfirst into the whole messy business of exploiting marginalized identities for clout. As a Welsh, brown, gay Gen-Z comic, she’s got a lot to say, and says it with flair, in her debut hour.

Navabi’s appearance, resembling a mad scientist, adds to the quirky charm of the show. Accompanied by her keyboard, she impressively blends her skills as a pianist with her unique singing style, creating an engaging musical experience. Growing up half brown and half white in Wales made her ponder identity, and while some may resort to wild stuff in a crisis, she turned to rapping.

Her rise in the comedy scene, including a scandal involving Rishi Sunak, is recounted with candour and insight into the media’s darker sides. At times, Navabi’s delivery can be a bit rambling, but it doesn’t overshadow the overall impact of her performance.

Compositions concludes on a sombre note, where Navabi expresses her desire to be seen as more than just her identity. Through laughter and introspection, Leila Navabi presents a show that challenges societal norms while showcasing her comedic and musical talents.
