2016 Best Auckland Newcomer, 2018 Billy T Award winner and reigning Taskmaster New Zealand champion, Melanie Bracewell, performs her debut Edinburgh Fringe hour. What a treat we had in store.

Much of the audience were unaware of the power outage affecting ticket sales and were delighted that the show was able to go ahead regardless. The venue was full to the brim; the Baby Grand’s small capacity allowed for a much more intimate, and interactive, show.

The affable New Zealand comedian, actress and scriptwriter ingratiates herself with audiences but is quick to point out that despite her imposing stature, her demeanour can be incredibly timid and self-effacing. To that end, Melanie became determined to rectify her past behaviour and unleash her inner anger following the loss of her earbuds. Interwoven into the narrative of this witty hour is the story behind her resolve to uncover the mystery of who is currently in possession of her earbuds and confront them in person. Rest assured this is no shaggy dog story and thankfully the story has a satisfying if slightly unexpected conclusion.

An excellent debut hour, Melanie is a talented storyteller who has the audience in the palm of her hand. She regales her captive audience with hilarious personal anecdotes, clever call backs and brilliant off-the cuff audience interactions. The show culminates in a truly remarkable conclusion. Don’t miss this.
