Critically acclaimed musical comedy duo Flo & Joan (sisters Rosie and Nicola Dempsey) return to the Edinburgh Fringe. This time venturing into new territory with their latest show, One Man Musical. Known for their sharp wit, hilarious songs, and deadpan delivery, the piano-percussion pair have previously showcased their talents on Live at the Apollo (BBC Two), The Royal Variety Performance (ITV1), and Horrible Histories (CBBC). Fans will recognize their signature comedic style, but it’s presented in a new, unexpected way.

The show revolves around a “renowned gentleman” of the theatre world. Take your guesses. Spoiler: It’s Andrew Llyod-Webber. And, since he hasn’t had a hit musical in a while, he’s bringing a show to the Edinburgh Fringe. One that’s all about him!

The concept is delightfully strange, offering plenty of laughs as it draws the audience into a wildly irreverent experience. Following Llyod-Webber’s life and skirting around any ‘legality issues’, the show pokes fun at his exceptionally privileged upbringing, character and career.

Flo & Joan remain part of the action, accompanying the performance with their electric drum kit and keyboard. They offer a tantalizing slice of their usual act at the start of the show, but their presence diminishes after that, which the audience misses.

Despite this, the main “man” of the show George Fouracres delivers an exceptional parody of Llyod-Webber, complete with a terrifying, chaotic, and unhinged energy. His commitment is undeniable, and the off-the-cuff audience interactions had the crowd in stitches. As you would expect when a man so refined should attempt Edinburgh Fringe style audience banter.  

Some jokes were lost due to sound levels, but that didn’t stop the audience having a great time. It’s undeniably funny, though the reason behind their passion for this particular story remains unclear.
