Phil Ellis: Come On and Take The Rest of Me

Phil Ellis

Words: Billie Cogman

5 stars

Phil Ellis is simply unmatched. Ellis continues a streak of incredible shows with his newest entry, which deviates slightly; but does not disappoint. After a year of incredible success and nominations, Phil Ellis is at the top of his game, while still being the most underrated comedian in the country.

He is known for his manic routines, his audience plants, his ridiculous show additions, and his unparalleled commitment to his performances. If you didn’t know any of these things about him, one viewing of his show would quickly remedy that. All of these elements are at play in this hour. It’s a show that feels incredibly loose while simultaneously feeling incredibly tight and well-rounded. Without giving too much away, Ellis is aided by some outside support that oftentimes catches even him off guard, and really adds to the theatrics. While most comics could use some trimming to improve their shows, everything he adds simply makes things better.

He is a one of a kind comedian, and he works with that. A highlight of the show is his unexpected impression of a certain public figure that really tears the roof off, especially with comedy savvy audiences. There is not a second of the show that doesn’t leave you anxiously waiting to see where it goes next. It’s off the wall, hilarious, and brilliant.

Phil Ellis is an icon in the comedy world who is right on his way to finally getting the attention he deserves. In short; he’s sensational.
