Rachel Galvo does not hesitate to invite the audience into her hilariously honest experience of puberty,
intrusive thoughts, and all things involving Irish girlhood in her production of The Shite Feminist.

As Rachel opens up about her experience of growing up in Dublin and attending an all-girls catholic
school, she confesses what exactly has made an impact on her becoming a ‘shite feminist’, from secretly
adoring the ‘traditional woman’ tasks in Montessori, the dream of becoming a rugby wife and honorary
mentions of humorous mishaps while discovering what Rachel calls ‘her tragic accident of puberty’.

Rachel dives into impressions of her effortlessly glamorous mother, while she contrastingly compares her
younger self as resembling ‘tofu’, confesses the various types of humour she tried with boys once she learned they don’t find impromptu Les-Miserable singing amusing and gives insight into attending an all-
girls catholic school, from underaged teenage disco’s, to poor sex education classes and rescue remedy addictions.

Though the show boasts comedic timing and natural crowd work, Rachel’s honesty and vulnerability are
true highlights as she discusses observations she has noticed about how girls try and change themselves into being more appealing to the male eye by changing their humour, hiding intelligence, and adopting the forbidden ‘giggle’.

Overall, Rachel Galvo presents refreshingly funny interpretations of girlhood and ironically, The Shite
Feminist could not be more empowering. You will leave feeling like you’ve caught up with a good friend.
