THE ALPHABET OF AWESOME SCIENCE

Words: Elodie Marriott

Lexi Con and Noel Edge’s show is filled with scientific wonders that will entertain children of all ages, and even the parents. Enlisting the help of the audience to decide the order of experiments, no performance is ever the same. Completing 26 experiments in 52 minutes, it is fast-paced and enjoyable throughout.

As the Word Nerd, Con reveals a little-known word for each letter of the alphabet, while Edge, as the Science Freak, decides upon the experiment that corresponds with that word. Their dynamic of a happy-go-lucky professor and a down-to-earth realist in a stripy rainbow dress, allows for a fun back and forth which children find funny and compelling.

The scientific explanations were interesting for both older children and parents, while the younger children’s attention was held mainly during the demonstrations, which were carried out with excitement and efficiency. Whether it was making a fire tornado or firing rice crispies into the audience with a leaf blower, the show was packed full of exhilarating acts that made children scream with delight.

The Alphabet of Awesome Science doesn’t dumb down the content for children, instead it sparks their interest and engages them through the cheerful demeanour of its cast.
