So Tape Face returns.  How exciting.

I’ve been doing the character since 2005 – so this show Tape Face 20 is a celebration of twenty years of doing The Boy With Tape on His Face. It’s a ‘Best Of’ show.

For people who haven’t seen you – can you describe the character?

It’s stand-up comedy without talking.  I still use the same rules as stand-up comedy – but with tape on my face.

The audience is trying to work out what’s going on – but I’m the only one who knows – and I can’t tell them.  It’s got a sort of Tim Burton energy and I think people like the quirky outsider character.

There’s a lot of audience participation in your shows…

Yes but I don’t humiliate people or insult them.  It’s audience participation of a different kind – I make sure when people come on stage they will leave with a smile on their face.

You’ve been performing a lot in Las Vegas, is that right?

I have a residency here performing six nights a week.  The show works well here because it is very accessible.   Vegas is one of these melting pot places and the show works for everyone – whether they speak English or not.

Do you think you will always have tape on your face?

I love putting on the tape and putting on the make-up. When I first started comedy I used to talk a lot but I got bored of that.

What does Edinburgh mean to you?

I’m really excited.  I have not been to the Fringe for seven years.  I’m looking forward to doing late night spots at Late’n’Live and The Stand. I rarely have the chance to do spots like that any more.

Yes and that is how it started for me.  I’d love to dip my toes back in.
