The Dreamer-Live is a powerhouse performance. From the moment James Phelan steps on stage, He exudes a cool, calm confidence, setting a relaxed tone that immediately puts the audience at ease. His ability to connect with the crowd is evident as he skilfully improvises with audience members, making the show feel fresh and personal.

The structure of the show is well thought out, with Phelan guiding the audience through a series of increasingly impressive feats. Without giving away too much and spoiling the magic, it’s worth noting that the last ten minutes are particularly striking, showcasing some wonderfully crafted illusions that leave the audience in awe.

However, the ending of the show does feel slightly rushed. The rapid pace of the final moments requires the audience to really concentrate as they are presented with a barrage of information. I think if it weren’t for some earlier hold ups, this wouldn’t have been a problem.

While the show was performed in a large tent at Circus hub, it maintained its intimacy and engagement, though it’s tempting to imagine how much more powerful it might have been in a smaller, more intimate venue. The Dreamer-Live is an excellent show, full of meaningful magic, and James Phelan’s performance is not to be missed.
