The double bill of The Flock and Moving Cloud offered a captivating contrast between two distinct yet equally engaging worlds of dance.

The Flock, choreographed by Roser López Espinosa, drew inspiration from the migration patterns of birds. Eight dancers moved in unison, their formations echoing the synchronised flight of a flock. Dressed in shades of blue and grey, they seamlessly transitioned from floor work to soaring leaps, mirroring the organic movements of birds in flight. While the concept was intriguing, the repetitive nature of the choreography became monotonous, though moments like the solo of a “wounded” dancer struggling to “fly” again added emotional depth.

In contrast, Moving Cloud, choreographed by Sofia Nappi, transformed the stage into a vibrant, smoke-filled space buzzing with energy. The dancers, in modernised 18th-century costumes, performed a playful fusion of contemporary, traditional and hip-hop, all set to the lively strains of a live Celtic band. The choreography was inventive and joyful, with fluid movements and dynamic use of levels, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a wild, joyous night in an old Scottish pub. The piece radiated a contagious energy, leaving the audience smiling and tapping their toes.

Together, these performances offered a well-rounded evening of dance—The Flock with its contemplative exploration of nature, and Moving Cloud with its exuberant celebration of movement and music.
