Part of the Made in Scotland Showcase, The Unlikely Friendship of Feather Boy and Tentacle Girl blends aerial acrobatics with storytelling in the gothic arches of Assembly Roxy. Created and performed by two Edinburgh artists, it follows a boy who wants to fly and a girl who longs to be a monster, exploring themes of belonging, trust, and friendship.

What sets this apart from other acrobatic shows is the theatrical framing. The duo don’t just perform tricks, they act and weave a narrative that keeps even the youngest viewers hooked. Performed without harnesses, their high-pole and floor work is impressive, relying solely on strength, skill and trust. Shadow play, Scottish accents, and curious music add layers of charm, while lighting, smoke, fabric, and floating feathers transform the space into a living dreamscape.

The highlight is a magical wind-tunnel sequence, feathers whirling around a performer in a moment of pure visual poetry. Gasps and giggles ripple through the family-packed crowd, proof of the show’s universal appeal.

Visually stunning and quietly profound, this is circus theatre that moves you. A reminder that friendship can turn outsiders into something extraordinary.
