Following their remarkable success with “Square Go” in 2018 and 2019, Gary McNair and Kieran Hurley return to the Paines Plough roundabout with their latest production, VL. After achieving a Scotsman Fringe First in 2018, a successful tour across the UK, and a return to the Fringe in 2019, it is evident that McNair and Hurley share a unique chemistry as co-writers.

The narrative centres on Max and Stevie, two teenage boys coming to terms with the nature of puberty whilst battling peer pressure and the challenging social dynamics of a small town high school. Their experiences resonate with anyone who has navigated the complexities of Scottish education. 

Scott Fletcher reprises his role as Max, the awkward teenager, while Gavin Jon Wright returns not only as his loyal companion but also takes on multiple roles, including the girl of interest, the high school bully, and the demanding stepfather. The dynamic between the actors creates an electrifying atmosphere on stage. 

Produced by Francesca Moody Productions, Kieran and Gary reunite with director Orla O’Loughlin as the show debuts in celebration of Roundabout’s 10th Anniversary.  This two-person high school comedy has the potential to be the most humorous production of the festival.

With vibrant Scottish performances from Fletcher and Wright, this is a show is an essential for those looking for an amusing, touching, pure Scottish show! Incredible.
