Waxen Figures is an electrifying plunge into a supernatural dreamscape, part ritual, part rave, and entirely unforgettable. Created by Muto Major as a Cryptic Commission, this immersive experience fuses live contemporary dance, Gaelic song, traditional Scottish instruments, and modern tech into something both ancient and futuristic. Projection mapping animates Pictish symbols, while Gaelic rap and haunting harmonies cast an eerie, beautiful spell.

Performed on a candlelit floor, the four-person cast draws the audience into a trance-like portal of myth and meaning. It’s a multisensory overload, at times soothing, at times overwhelming, with moments that make you feel like you’re in Lord of the Rings or Berghain. It’s hard to say if this would be incredible or terrifying while tripping on mushrooms, and that’s part of the thrill!

Waxen Figures isn’t for everyone. It walks a fine line between spellbinding and strange; but for those willing to surrender to its intensity, it’s a uniquely Scottish, deeply visceral experience. Go in open-minded, and prepare to be transported.
