Every show begins with an initial spark. What was the original idea, moment or experience that made you create this piece?
In a time of great global change and chaos, it was a nice reprise to take a breather reminiscing about the treasure and trash of the early 00’s. We found it was easy to get stuck in a tear-streaming laugh of all the “remember this, remember this?” and thought it was a joyous way to make a show, capturing that feeling and throw it into the YUCK Circus blender—mixing high-skill circus, rib-crackin’ comedy, and the chaotic optimism of Y2K into one unforgettable night.
What can audiences expect when they step into this world?
Iconic Y2K throwbacks, splits, tricks, and flips to a soundtrack packed with guilty pleasures. It’s loud, playful, chaotic and full of laughs.
Why is this the Fringe the right place for this show?
The Edinburgh Fringe celebrates bold, original work and has audiences who are ready to jump into the unexpected. Having toured our original show to Edinburgh for 3 years, we’re so excited to be back with a brand new banger; Naughties. We know it’s the right place for this show, and have spent A LOT of money to bring it all the way here from Australia with complete trust that Edinburgh audiences are going to LOVE it.
What is something about the show that the audience might not immediately notice, but you hope they discover?
The show is different from every angle in the venue—each visit uncovers fresh moments, hidden gags, and performances played just for your side of the room. Even better- you’ll know the show is quality, and you’ll get to brag about your fringe-intel to every friend or family member you bring.
What has surprised you most about creating this piece?
How quickly the memories came flooding back—not just for us, but for everyone around us. The tiniest details, from dial-up internet sounds to the way we all typed LiKe ThIs, instantly unlocks stories and laughter. Even better that it seems to be a global experience- things we grew up with in Australia have just the same effect on UK audiences as it did to the viewers back home.
When your audience walks home, what would you love them to still be talking about?
How they’re obsessssed with us, and that they’re gonna tell everyone and anyone to get their tickets. But also, most of all, we hope they leave feeling like they’ve had a fun arvo out with their friends—full of laughter, surprises and just the right amount of Y2K chaos.
