Safety is an impactful one man show that explores power, truth, and perspective. The script is nicely polished, transporting the audience into scenes with attentive details that subtly reveal to us what characters are trying to hide about themselves. It forces the crowd into uncomfortable spaces, challenging us to sit there for a while and confront the feelings face-on.
Sitting on stage is Adam, a psychotherapist. He’s in his office and he’s telling us about his patients and their problems. There’s one man in particular who intrigues Adam the most. He needs a little more help, and to be truly honest with himself in order to make progress. That is Adam’s expert opinion.
A close connection is formed with our protagonist, who never leaves our sight during the hour runtime. This inspires both empathy and a claustrophobic sensation throughout the play, which stays with us even after the final bow. For a psychologically sinister ride, Safety is your show.
